Sufi Traveler is the American debut of Mercan Dede, perhaps the most exciting and innovative project on the world music electronica circuit today. Dede fuses the profound, spiritual dimension of Sufi music with electronic beats and atmospherics. World electronica is creating a new generation of techno fans who want the intimacy of live acoustic performances built into the groove. For Dede, this is the essence of Sufiism, combining opposites: east-west, past-future, ancient-modern, internal-external.
Disc one interweaves scintilating violin improvisations from Hugh Marsh, and soul-stirring Turkish tradition from Hüsnü Şenlendirici, Shams Brothers, and Kani Karaca to create moody sound scapes unlike anything heard before. Disc two veers toward the live energy Dede had developed with his band Secret Tribe. Secret Tribe’s live shows have made Dede a star in Turkey and Europe. Now it’s America’s turn. Sufi Traveler is destined to become a world music classic.
This Double CD package will be on the American market at the begining of June.
Mercan Dede will do a national tour major cities and at major festival evenst performing for audiences numbering thousands . ... First Leg of the NA Tour Starts on 7/15th- ends 8/02, 04. The second leg for NA performing Arts Theaters-Starts fall 10/14th – 11/15th, 04.
